EUVE Spectroscopic Observation of the 1992 July 15 Flare on AU MIC
Abstract
We present spectroscopic results from an EUVE observation of the dM1e star AU Mic on 1992 July 14--18. Photometric results from this observation were given by Cully et al. 1993. During this observation, on July 15, a flare event lasting more than a day was seen for which the total EUV energy was about 3*E(34) ergs. Spectral lines are seen in the short wavelength and medium wavelength channels of EUVE, between 70 and 380 Angstroms. We show the time evolution of the flux in individual spectral lines, as well as the spectrum as a whole. From these fluxes we derive time-dependent differential emission measures during the evolution of the flare. We also discuss the use of density-sensitive line ratios and the possibility of non-equilibrium ionization effects. This work has been supported by NASA contracts NAS5-30180 and GSRP 23385.
